This vitola was visually impressive giving a positive first impression. It sported a very classy, albeit large, band. The wrapper leaf was silky smooth with a nice satin sheen. The construction was very good. Of particular interest was the perfectly formed, triple layer cap. The body of the cigar transitioned via a clean small radius into a precise, flat surface that looked very intriguing. This flat surface begged for a punch rather than a cutter, which of course I obliged.

The pre-light aroma was of dry grain with a distinct but subtle spicy background. The Flavor was meaty. The pre-light draw was slightly tight.

Lighting was a challenge, even with my torch. I had some difficulty with the foot taking to toasting. It didn't want to heat up enough to ignite. With persistence it finally took off, expending about a quarter inch of cigar just to get lit up. With that behind us, the burn turned out to be good and even for the remainder of the smoke. Miraculously, the flavor did not seem harmed by all this lighter activity.

This cigar offered an interesting flavor profile. Medium to full in character, it started out with a meaty burst supported by subtle sweetness and floral notes. This settled into a bready flavor with the meat component still present but toned down considerable. The sweetness turned to a faint chocolate note. The floral component also remained and in a sense proved to play the supporting roll. This property was the one that pleasantly varied throughout the smoke and was the foundation for the cigars moderate complexity. The finish was short and very dry with nice leather notes. The body was medium and the strength mild. In spite of these seemingly competing elements, harmony was established and the final report on this cigar is favorable.

This was my first experience with the Padilla brand. I enjoyed this cigar and would definitely try another.

Thanks for reading my review!
