Moki made me do it- Opus Power Ranger
Well to continue my recent trend of revisiting some domestics, NC #5 was an Opus X last night after the WS ended. It was a short, torpedo with red satin foot and no cedar. Hopefully Moki will stick his head in here and tell us which one it was.
One thing I couldn't get over was the incredible aroma coming off this rosado wrapper. It was a great florally smell, but distinctly DR tobacco. My experience was almost ruined by fat ass Mr. Bobo who had to get in my lap and waller out his spot, with his goat oil stench overpowering the cigar. After he laid down and his odor disapated, the pointy part was easily cut with my cool ass SAK. I know most people talk about burn problems with Opi, but this one burned like a champ. It needed a couple mild touchups, but so have all my cigars I've smoked in this pea soup humidity. The flavor was distinctly DR tobacco with the aroma of flowers. I also enjoyed the slight sweetness with a pepper jelly kind of spice the wrapper of the Opus imparted. The slightly sweet flavor was consistent until the last 1.5" where it became stronger and the pepper overswept the delicate flavors. Strength-wise, I'd still say these are a solid medium to me. With all his talk about Opus, Moki made me rethink my position and revisit this one. I'm glad I did.
