Review: Tatuaje Cojonu
Tatuaje Cojonu
6 1/2 by 52 Interesting looking cigar. Obviously intended to resemble the Habanos LE, the Tatuaje sports a plain band reminiscent of the Habanos Montecristo band in color and size. Below that is the Cojonu band, which looks like the black and gold Edicion Limitada ring. The cigar is hefty, densely packed and attractive. The wrapper is smooth with only small veins, and the roll is even and straight. A Nicaraguan puro, the Tatuaje line is rolled at the El Rey de los Habanos factory in Little Havana, Miami. Clipped easily and with no tearing. The pre light draw was firm and tasted rustic. The telltale earth/spice shadow of Nicaraguan tobacco was evident, along with a slight mustiness which was not at all unpleasant. The cigar felt good in the hand and had no obvious soft spots or knots. Very professionally done. Toasting the foot produced a wisp of smoke that smelled very nice. In fact the smoke from this cigar had a very pronounced and delightful aroma throughout. It was that old fashioned tobacco scent like you remember from childhood, and several passersby commented that it smelled nice. The first puffs were flavorful and strong. Very straightforward flavor with a nice subtle spicy edge. The flavor built and solidified throughout the smoke, only taking on a sour or harsh edge when smoked too fast or hot. Once I settled into a rhythm the cigar delivered nicely for the entire hour it took to smoke. While not overpowering, this cigar would be best enjoyed after a meal or later in the day. It's not for the feint of heart. Altogether this was a well rolled, flavorful, and enjoyable cigar. While the price was a bit high, ($12.50 California retail,) it was a very nice way to spend an hour and at the right price I might be tempted to purchase a box, as the strength and flavor profile indicate that this cigar might benefit from a bit of aging. A solid 9 out of 10 by my estimation. |
