"One common thread for sure, wine folks love to talk about wines.

Idea: How about a thread where we can add recent tasting experiences. That way, it can be ongoing, and folks have an evolving reference.

I kind of tried this on JR's a while back and it had limited success. But I think it was not specific enough.

Here is what I think would be cool:

Thread title - "Wines Enjoyed for $15 and under - 2003"

On this thread we could share what we have drank recently, the vintage (year), and if you paired it with a good smoke.

The reason I think it is important to mention the year, is because lower cost wines tend to vary more yeara to year, especially the blends. For instance, big difference between the "Parallel 45" Rhone wine from 2000 to 2001.

I am open to suggestions here. But I think on this board it could be a hit. And, it might open up some wine trading from time to time. I can get just about anything in this town (Houston is the 7th largest port city in the world), but there are several I never see.

My first entry would be something like this:

Wine: 2001 Don Miguel Gascon Malbec (Argentina) $9
Smoke: Well aged old brown band HDM maduro toro

The malbec was drop dead solid. Very chewy but a nice soft finish. I had it too cool at first, but after sitting out about 30 minutes, it really hit its peak temprature. Decanting seemed to knock off the young edge a bit. The HDM showed its age. Lots of cool smoke, but very little finish. Great compliment to the malbec."
