Only the Gulf guys will even remember
Johnny Fasullo on WWOZ. Every time I hear Zydeco, I immediately think of him. He died shortly after his mother (of whom he was a caretaker of) in November 2005.
I have several recordings of his Sunday morning shows. Talking up acts at the Rock 'N Bowl. That was a 3 story music venue made out of a bowling alley. So quintessentially New Orleans. Each floor was a different style of music. The basement was zydeco. 'Cause Johnny can't dance! If you need a reference point, think about the assistant coach played by Blake Clarke in The Waterboy. He mixed Cajun French and English so much that sometimes you couldn't understand a damned thing he said. But extremely enthusiastic. I need to dig those old cassettes and play them again. It was a very unique radio program.
