Dead Air

I have a tendency to pack coolers with as many cigars as possible and I've noticed from the posts on this BB that the 'fit as many as you can' attitude appears to be the accepted strategy.

Has anyone ever noticed any pros or cons to leaving a percentage of empty space in a cooler or humidor? Temperature and humidity seem to generate a fair amount of angst, but I would think those two values have a relation to the amount of circulating air within the container and I've never seen the point addressed.
