Make TODAY a special occaision
Today is official “Special Occasion Day”.
. I decided to drive into work this morning, as I really didn’t feel like dealing with the weekend drama of the MTA. This forced the scenario of what to smoke on my drive in. I was feeling very uninspired looking through my humidors. I’ve got regular go-to’s that I smoke all the time, and frankly wasn’t in the mood for. Then I’ve got a slew of trophies, and I realized that I’ve got all these cigars labeled and separated… cigars I’ve looked at for YEARS, that I’ve gently moved to one side or another to save for a special occasion. But every time a special occasion comes, I never smoke the damn things, and there they sit, forever cursed with being “too good” to smoke. And perhaps more importantly… smoking an incredibly special cigar to celebrate a special occasion divides your attention. MAKE the cigar the special occasion. MAKE it the focus of your concentration and excitement. So, on this random, chilly Saturday morning in New York, for absolutely no good reason at all, I did the unthinkable. I reached in and grabbed one of my trophies, and decided to celebrate. Celebrate the fact that I woke up this morning. Celebrate that I was enroute to a job that I love, in a business that I love, in a city that I love. I lit up an original Davidoff Millennium No. 2. The original Millennium’s were all perfectos, released in assortment boxes of 20 as you may recall with 3 sizes in each box in 1999. The No. 2 was the middle size, probably 6 ¼” by 49 or so. I’ve looked at this cigar for so long… anticipating the day I’d smoke it… A job promotion (came and went, didn’t fire it up)... A Birthday (nope)… never imagining “wasting” is on just a random wonderful morning. It was ANYTHING but a waste. We’ve heard it a million times, and said it too… Life is too short to smoke bad cigars. Appreciate every day like it’s you last… blah blah blah. But, how often do we actually celebrate a day just because. I was in no rush coming to work this morning. I didn’t use my horn once. I didn’t get frusturated with people “blocking the box”. I even let a cab squeeze in front of me from a turn only lane. I parked my car, but had no thought to get out. I put it in park, and enjoyed the rest of my cigar… When I go home tonight and look in the humidor that has housed that cigar for so long, sure it’ll look a little empty. I’ll miss pulling it out for my friends to see when they come over… but, I’ll certainly enjoy telling everyone how great it was!!! C’mon… what are you REALLY waiting for? Fire up a trophy cigar… just because. Make today “Special Occasion Day”! POST WHAT TROPHY YOU DECIDED TO SMOKE! -Michael |
