'03 Opus X Lancero
Opus X Lancero
7 1/2" x 41 Wrapper: Dominican Republic Binder: Dominican Republic Filler: Dominican Republic Construction: Nice reddish brown, oily wrapper. Few minor veins. Just a little give. Prelight: Perfect draw. Some spice, cedar, and a little raisin-like sweetness. Burn: Lit evenly and stayed even for the first inch or so. It then started burning unevenly and had to be touched up several times. Drink: Cold water Smoking notes: The first few inched were a smooth cedar taste, probably due to the fact that it has been aging in a cedar sleeve for 3 years. At about the half way mark, the flavors started picking up. I was able to pick up that raisin sweetness that I noticed in the prelight draw. Overall impression: My expectations were pretty high going into this one. It was my first Opus, and it has been aging for 3 years. At first, I wasn't impressed. The flavor was kind of bland in the beginning, and the burn just wouldn't stay straight. Then at the halfway mark, it picked it up a notch. It had a rich woodsy and toasty tobacco taste with a nice sweetness. I was amazed at how smooth it was for the length of the smoke. It burned suprisingly cool for a small ring gauge cigar. I was able to smoke it to less than an inch.
