I tend to seperate full english/latikia/oriental mixes from aromics other than that I dont bother, however you may find that over time there are blends that you perfer out of different pipes. For example latikia blends burn hotter then most others so you may find a thick bowl that you perfer to smoke out of to keep things cool. I rarely smoke aromics and they seem to flavor everything.

corn cobs are interesting but to me they get old quick, I've found that getting 2-3 decent pipes (25-45$) and a few different blends that you enjoy are the way to go, look at Two-friends they have several different samplers that have 12g of 4 different tobaccos per tin and I believe theres 2 different samplers you can get, 20$ to try 8 different blends is always a good bet, also look to bulk, mcClellen 5100 is great and you can get it for about 4$ for 2oz. dunhill 965 is very good.

One more thing is to think about what times of the day you smoke, during daylight hours I always go for a lighter oriental/VA mix or straight VA, at night it's always got a heavy amount of latikia
