Word has it that the giant firm of Diageo, presently experiencing increased profits from expanding sales in foreign markets, is set to invest heavily in its Scottish distilling operations. Although much of the investment will be earmarked for expansion and renovation of existing malting, distilling, storage and bottling sites, a large sum has been set aside for the erecting of a brand new Highland malt distillery. The distillery seems likely to be located at Roseisle. This would make perfect sense, given that two of Diageo's largest maltings are situated practically nextdoor - one at Roseisle and another at Burghead (both managed by Eric Walker). Hopes are to have the new distillery up and running by 2009, with legally aged Scotch thus available from 2012. The estimated cost is tagged at 40 million British Pounds.
