Cigar freezing still necessary?
It's been over 5 years since I purchased my everyday cigars, I used to freeze all incoming cigars to prevent beetle outbreak and it has proven successful. I am planning to order many boxes to age. Do you guys still freeze incoming new boxes (2010 box codes)? Is it still necessary or they already done it at manufacturing end?
It's good to be back after years of hibernation!

I bought a box of swisher sweets (it's a boy cigars) I didn't give them all away still had some in the box. The box has been setting for months I open it up today to see how dry they were. some of them look like something has ate through the wrappers on some of them, I could post some pictures? is that what the beetles do?

Yes. Exactly. And there will be dust in the bottom of the container.

Forgot to add, I am asking in regards to CC only. Please let me know your experiences on recent purchase and if it's necessary to freeze them. Thanks!

I have never froze cigars - I have never had a beetle problem - I returned some cigars with beetle holes but never actually had an infestation.

I bought a small 10 cubic feet refrigerator. I keep it as warm as it will go which is about 65 degrees F.
As I need cigars I take them out of the Fridge and put them in a humidor and my X-Treme Travel Humidor. After a day or so they're good to go. I use the 2 and one half gallon bags to store my sticks in the box or as bundles with 69 percent and 72 percent Boveda bags. The beetle eggs wont hatch if kept colder than 70 degrees. |

won't hatch but if there is a live beetle down in there that hatched in the back of a hot UPS truck...
that said I don't freeze

This I believe is not correct. It will take longer, but eggs can hatch at temps below 70.
