If you consider the locations that cigars come from, it makes sense. Tobacco that is used in hand made cigars comes primarily from countries on latitudes having a warm and moist environment... Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Honduras and Nicaragua.
What better way to store your cigars than in an environment that mimics the environment in which the tobacco was grown, harvested, rolled and stored. That is basically what a humidor does.
