The New Age Sam Bowie....
Only 2½ minutes into his NBA debut -- which was delayed for a year by knee surgery in 2007 -- the Portland Trail Blazers' center Greg Oden suffered what the team called a sprain in his right foot. He played on it for the rest of the first half in the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, but when the third quarter began Oden was back in the trainer's room, preparing for an X-ray.
Sixteen months of waiting … for less than 13 minutes of play. I can't remember the last time Oden played healthy at least for a half a season. Are we ever going to see a TRUE Greg Oden or are they going to revisit the error they made in 1984 when the same team drafted Sam Bowie, whose injuries limited him to only 63 games over the next four seasons, including only five during the 1986-87 NBA season and missing the entire 1987-88 NBA season? Is this what the Trail Blazers have to look forward to with Oden?
