Cherry Wood in humidors

Does anyone know if cherry wood has any negative affects on aging cigars? I'm looking at purchasing a wine frig. to store my boxes in and the shelves are made of cherry wood. Do they make humidors made of cherry wood that are not lined with spanish cedar? Since my cigars will be kept in their original cedar boxes, I wasn't too concerned about them coming in contact with the cherry wood. Was just curious if the wood would have any negative effects (smell, taste ) on my cigars and wether it would hold up to the humidity. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CW!

I wouldn't be too concerned about any negative effects in the smell or taste of cigars. I would be very concerned about the ability to hold humidity. If it can hold humidity levels, it should work great!

Cherry shelves in a wine fridge? Seems kinda weird. Maybe it's cherry veneer over ply. Either way it will be fine.

Most of the humidors (cherry that is) today say the FINISH is cherry. This means the finish is a mixture of red stain and laquer. It is rarely Cherry wood. But one COULD use cherry I guess. Used to be that quite alot of furniture was made of cherry hardwood. Not old huimidors though. Makes me wonder if cherry expands and contracts alot.

Won't hurt as shelves.

I thought It was weird too, but it looks nice. It's not a veneer but sanded cherry wood with no stain or finish. I haven't seen anything about it having sap pockets, so I hope it will be safe. Wether it regulates humidity as well as spanish cedar is the big question.

I don't think it will help much in that regard. Use "wine" as a search function in this forum. There are a lot of threads on wine fridges.
