No. The point of advertising is to create desire, where none exists.

those are both very insightful and factual ideas. To make a product stand apart from the other (inferior) products, and to create a need or desire where none existed before.
Sort of like when ron popeil introduced the abraham lincoln's beard chia pet on presidents day; it stood apart from the typical chia sheep. when he later produced scientific studies that proved that a chia abe adds oxygen to the home and absorbs a million different carcinogens, he created a sense of urgency and need for the product. when he advertised 2 for 1 (just pay shipping and handling) he created the sense of triumph that allowed every american shopper to stick it to the man, and get 2 chia abes for the price of one, and make his bathroom carcinogen free, just like his living room will be. Advertising is the blind men's elephant. It can be many things. It's also the freakin hydra. If it doesn't bite you in the ass with one head, it will bite you in the balls with another. |

btw, for those who don't know, a herkimer diamond is just quartz. whereas quartz normally grows from a matrix, like grass, with one pointed end and the other end stuck to the stone it grew from, a herkimer diamond grows independently of the matrix, and has dual terminations. It has, I believe, 18 faces to the crystal; 6 on each end, and the hexagonal body.
So, essentially, he's filtering the vodka through quartz. SPECIAL quartz. The beauty of herkimers is that the new ager nut crystal people think they're some BFD. Herkimers are quite often clear and perfect. That makes it real easy for the people in china to recycle beer bottles by melting them into herkimer molds and selling them to the freakin stupid americans. |

The Herkimer Diamond Mines are not far from Syracuse. I've never been there, but I know many people who have. Everyone knows they're not real diamonds, but they're still cool to look at and the mines, with the underground boat tour, are supposed to be pretty cool.

I'd love to see it. There are deposits in a few other regions; somebody, somewhere, knows why they grow like they do. I sure don't. growing in a void in the stone from silica solution usually produces geodes.
I would bet that if you went and harvested herkimers on your own, the fact that you had "wild stock" and that you weren't a professional harvester would double or treble the price. Unless they figure that you had imprinted on the crystals, therefore ruining them... There is a sucker born every minute and a thousand fools per hour. |
