Any Gospel Or Christian Music Fans.

I like to watch the Bill Gaither shows. I usually don't care for quartets but these guys really shine. The tenor, David Phelps, sure has a set of pipes on him.

Some other Contemporary artists I like are:
Mark Heard
Steven Curtis Chapman
Ashley Cleveland (this girl can really sing and her old man plays a mean guitar)
Rhonda Gunn
Phil Keaggy (this guy belongs on the guitar player thread)

Have you guys ever heard any of these? Mark Heard is something else. I wish I had the hardware to download vinyl to disc. I've got several of his albums and would like to record them to cd. He plays several instruments. He's even got an old National mandolin. One of my favorite albums by him is "Eye Of The Storm". I guess I should say played, he passed away in "92. He recorded a lot of acoustic stuff but he played a lot of slide on his Strat also.

Tell me some of your favorites.

A few years ago my kids dragged me to a huge Christian music festival in Illinois called Cornerstone. I'm a Christian, but didn't think I liked contemporary Christian music. It was a great experience. Mostly young, hardcore rock bands, but a little bit of every kind of music. They had a blues jam one night that was world class. They have 400 or so bands, and tents set up for different kinds of music - rock, acoustic, etc. Some of the bands or artists I've heard there and enjoyed immensely:

Larry Howard
Solo members of the Rez band
Lost Dogs
77's
Over The Rhine
Five Iron Frenzy
Rikki Michelle
Ticklepenny Corner
Glenn Kaiser Band
Havalina Railroad
Urban Hillbilly Quartet

If anyone lives in the midwest (or anywhere in the country for that matter), and is a music lover, this festival is a must-see. 25,000 people, mostly young, with multi color hair, body piercing and body art galore, but all respectful of everyone else, and all there to enjoy the music. As an old fart, I never felt out of place, and there was plenty of music for me to enjoy.

Plus, if any of you all attends, I'll have someone to herf with...

stereoaction, email sent.

HuskerHerfer, I would like to attend one of those. I don't care for Alternative but the Christian Alternative is pretty good these days. Contemporary Christian groups all sounded the same at one time and I quit listening to it for a while. That's when I turned to Gospel. Contemporary is a lot better now but I it's usually the country style that really brings out the emotions. I can watch the Gaithers and at some point during the show there will be tears rolling down my cheeks.

That's one thing about this festival, there's little to no gospel and very little country based music. There's a little bit of bluegrass type stuff, but nothing like the Gaithers at all. They're trying to reach the kids, and they're doing a heck of a job.

It's still a great time, and a wonderful experience.

Anyone remember Andre' Crouch? I used to get into his music. In fact, years ago I used to fill in for the music director at the baptist church I attended. I would get the congregation cranked up on Andre'..........I enjoyed watching the folks "get into" the music.....they were "getting funky" without even realizing it!
