DEA Churchill review
Hello, I had seen a thread where the virtues of the DEA cigar from MDCigars.com had been advertised as just as good as any 5$ cigar, so I bought a bundle of the churchies to review.
DISCLAIMER: I got the cigars yesterday in the mail. I smoked one mere hours off of the truck. I intend to set aside the rest of the bundle for a little downtime to adjust before returning to this thread for a second impression review. This should only take a few weeks. The cigar itself was a nice light rosado, I took the cello off and gave it a little sniff. Hay. The cigar smelled like a hay bale. I clipped and found the draw to be very good. Upon light up, the cigar tasted like a hay bale as well. Musty and leathery, with that unpleasant hay aftertaste. After an inch, the cigar tunnelled badly and I nursed it to the halfway point, where it got somewhat better. The burn corrected finally, and I got a nice tangy leather and earth taste, but always with that nasty hay bale flavor in the background. I smoked it to the band, hoping that something would come out that I had missed, but alas, not to be. This cigar reminds me in all respects to the "Free Cuba" cigars that CI used to sell when the bands and bundle had the topless lady on the front (which they have since covered up the boobs on). Smell the same, and taste even worse than those bundles that I got rid of years ago. I will try again after the bundle gets some rest in some cedar with some beads, and report back, so these may just hate travel. (I hope) As far as ordering from MDCigars, it was easy, the shipping was fast and packaging was top notch. I was well informed of tracking number and communication was excellent. I also ordered a sampler of his house cuban sandwich cigars and wonder exactly what I got. The website has listed churchills and torps as available and that is what I expected the sampler to be. What I got was 3 churchills and two short cigarillo type cigars that stunk like an acid, and are not listed on the website. I didn't even attempt to smoke them, they went in the trash. Lesson learned is all I will say about that here.
