Col. Bruce

Anybody hip to this stuff?? I'm just blown away by the guitar work of Jimmy Herring.

Col. Bruce Hampton? He used to play a lot in Athens, GA, when I was in college, maybe ten years ago. I think his band then was called The Aquarium Rescue Unit. Heard him several times back then in small venues and bars. He played my fraternity house a few time, too. I remember he always put on a real good show, really jammed. Never heard any recording. Any suggested albums?

Col Bruce's current lineup is called the "Fiji Mariners", and they can be seen at the Brandy House (Atl GA) occasionally.

Didja catch his cameo in "Swing Blade"? He was the wheelchair dude in Dwight Yoakum's horrible garage band. Remember their name?

Oops, right, Code Talkers At Cotton Club with Oteil's band. Of course, Jimmy was in the ARU; current guitarist with the Col is Bobby Lee Rodgers.

Edit: Fiji Mariners still gig locally, but with Barry Richman on guitar instead of Jimmy Herring. Or did... I ain't been down to the Brandy House in a while....

The band in Sling Blade was "Titty Twister". Bruce Hampton played "Morris". The song they did was called "Plunger".
