2001 Camacho Diploma
The Eiroa family was hitting towering home runs every at bat with Caribe, it seemed. It took a while after they bought Camacho in 1995 to get that train rolling, but once they did it was a juggernaut.
Christian Eiroa was convinced that the new Corojo hybrid tobacco was key to unlocking growth, and he had released a few blends featuring Corojo that were well received. Then, as they say, shit got real. The new super secret, extra special, high octane, nut punching, butt puckering, Corojo Diploma was that shit. To befit its stature at the pinnacle of the Camacho line, it was packed in a first-of-its-kind cedar pyramid box with a small sliding top and a white ribbon around the bunch. It was the must-have cigar of 2001. But, and it was a big but, the cigars were powerful. Like .88 Magnum it shoots through schools powerful. Oh, and almost impossible to get out of the box. But once you got one out of the box you needed to eat a big steak dinner with all the trimmings before smoking it or you’d be driving the porcelain bus to Ralphsville by halftime. I got some and smoked 2 that year. One out of ignorance, and one out of masochism. I put the rest away. They got better. So much better that Sean just gave one a scorching 92 point review. Yahtzee!
