Crotch mahogany

There's something about the term "crotch mahogany" that is appealing to me. Maybe its a hygienic thing... I've always liked 'em sweaty.

It always brings up a juvenile chuckle from me. Looks nice, but I'm not sure I could bring it home and then have to explain it to everyone when they ask "What is Crotch Mahogany?"

I often wake up with a mahogany crotch.

(We are talking about hard wood, right)?

Well....Diana Ross was in that movie "Mahogany". And she has a crotch. But I'm not sure I want anything to do with it at this point. Unless I could watch her fondle Little Kim!

Seriously, I was looking at some crotch mahogany the last time I was in the wood store. After paying for the wood and having it cut, it's about $150 for enough to make a decent size desktop humidor. God forbid I would make a mistake!

A know a really good luthier and he agreed to hook me up with some quality wood. Some of the blanks he gets are not big enough for an electric guitar so they are of no use to him. Its all premium stuff so all I have to do is cut it to size.

If I want something like Lacewood I can get it, but I would likely have to pay for that. I know he made a Lacewood topped guitar last month that came out really nice.

here's my recent acquisition with crotch mahogany: http://galleries.cigarweekly.com/wer/

you're right though, I have been saying "wood grain patterning" when describing it to people rather than using the term "crotch"
