I just got this anti-tobacco e-mail
Of course, I sent them an e-mail back (through an anonymous, untraceable account) with a pic of me smoking a RyJ Churchill while giving the middle finger salute.
Dear Friend: Every day in America, 2,000 more kids become addicted to tobacco - one third of whom will die prematurely. If you are as concerned about this fact as I am, help protect our children by sending a free letter to the President Bush. I'm helping to launch an Internet campaign to tell President Bush to say no to special protection for Big Tobacco. Will you help? Just click here to send a free message to President Bush: DontPardonBigTobacco.org To make matters worse, Big Tobacco has given over $26.5 million in political donations since 1997. Now the tobacco industry wants President Bush to kill the federal lawsuit against the tobacco industry. Big Tobacco doesn't deserve a presidential pardon. Tell President Bush to hold the Tobacco industry accountable and support the federal government's tobacco lawsuit, which would force the tobacco industry to stop deceiving the public and marketing to kids. It only takes a minute to help. And if you forward this message to your friends and family, we'll really get the ball rolling. Thanks for your help, Carter Headrick Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids

Forgive me for my interference FlipFlop, but I think that doing things like that is just ''oil on their fire''.
Here in the Netherlands this things were also happening and it gave the anti-smoking-lobby the weapons to say: ''You see, smokers don't care about their fellow humans''. The result was a new, more strict Dutch Tobacco Law. IMHO sending an email with: ''I agree that children should not be exposed at smoke in whatever form. Real cigar-devotees know this rule and won't smoke in the presence of children. Furthermore it is true that smoking (cigars) should be an adult bussiness and not for kids. I think however that Mr. Bush, as a occasional cigar-smoker, is very well aware of those facts, and doesn't need us to tell him so. I trust that our President will act in the interest of both smokers, non-smokers and of course (our) children.'' Will have more effect. Please don't think I want to be pig-headed. I just mean it right.

I have to say that some of my fondest memories are sitting with my great grandfather while he smoked his evening cigar. I see absolutely no point in 'demonizing' tobacco in the same manner that the've demonized alcohol. A child should have every right to learn the proper and mature manner in which to enjoy one of nature's bounty's without some busybody poking their nose into it.
Second hand smoke is simply not that harmful and certainly not to the extent that we should curtail someone's liberty over it. That said these people are typically zealots who are immune to reason and calls for moderation. I see no way in which to reach an accomodation with them. Therefore, I see no reason to try to deal with them or accept the blame for any outcome based on my reactions to them.

I think we need to do something about BIG SUGAR insted. I quit cigarettes years ago. Skoal ok I quit it about 8 years ago and still miss it.
But can go without. But I can't seem to walk by a damn vending machine without buying a Hostess what ever. This stuff is really addictive, and has hurt more people I know than tobacco has. Damn evil ass Suzy Q's. what to do what to do? |

Wim, God bless you my friend, but you haven't a clue how things work over here. The spammer is not rational and will not respond to a rational rebuttal. About all you can do is what flipflop did. Give'em a shock and a smile.

Of course I agree with the basic idea: leave us in peace and let us enjoy our Cigars and (if You like) a drink or two.
I guess You are right, I haven't a clue how things work over there. But, I know how it worked out here in the Netherlands when the new Tobacco Law came in power: 1. Advertisement on tobacco in any form in prohibited. 2. Sponsoring events by tobacco-companies will be prohibited. 3. Giving customers a free sample cigar is prohibited. etc. Even a Job-advertisement from a tobacco-company with it's logo was punished. How crazy can it get? Very crazy! That's why I think we must not give those people any ''weapons''. Just ignore them or face them with arguments but don't be abusive. And, try to make a ''split'' in smoking cigarettes and enjoying cigars in moderation without inhaling while the first is an addiction and the second is not. Many politiciens know that, since (most of them) are intelligent people and very often smoke cigars (in moderation) themselves. Don't let the ''anti's'' sweap everything on one pile and say: ''There all the shit''. So again: If they are not rational they are not worth spending our time on (even not a middle-finger).
