Was in a box split for these on the JR bbs. I tried a gold last night (picked this one because the wrapper was glued to the band when I was collecting them for my ballcap envelope). So it started with a nice big hole in the wrapper. Cigar had the look and feel of a FdA or BF corona - the CT wrapper was darker than the sumatra on the extreme it was banded to. The cigar lit well, and even initially tasted like an FdA or BF corona, starting very strong, as in stronger than I remember a CAO gold.
Then it got ugly. The front end of the cigar was rolled bad - pipe down the middle, and wouldn't burn - it would get hot, very hot, but wouldn't burn or produce smoke. Trudged through this with the lighter and was disappointed. Finally, close to the center, the cigar began to burn again and cooled down. And happily, the flavors came through. Not just flavors, but great flavors. Earthy, coffee, cinnamon, and an habano-like mild sweetness, all with a good strong peppery core. Know I reviewed a bad cigar here, but hopefully, the next one will make up for it. |
