Martini's
Now I do not consider myself a martini drinker. In fact
I rarely every drink anything other then beer & wine. I was at a very nice function recently, and they had a bar dedicated to strictly martini's. When they asked what I would like, I told them a traditional martini with gin. They asked me if I wanted it dirty. It seemed that there was some confusion. They have all these new concoctions which a lot of women like to drink. After the martini was made, I tried it and all I could taste was the gin. It was decent gin Bombay. I have had martini's at other functions that were out of this world.

getting a good martini is not easy. there seems to be a conspiracy against vermouth and good old olives. And just because they put it in a martini glass does not make it a martini... appletini, choclotini, poopshootatini by fat butt

I have never understood that vermouth conspiracy. Dangit, ya want gin on the rocks thats one thing but when you want a martini, its gin, vermouth, and an olive.

I have s'oftened my s'tance on the exxxxxxtra dry martini s'omewhat.
I us'ed to just add a few drop's. (or add it to the room humidifier ) S'ome place's go overboard with the vermouth, though. It i's much cheaper to fill a gla's's with vermouth than it i's a good quality gin.

I thought "dirty" meant adding some of the olive juice to the martini and had nothing to do with the amount of vermouth used.

Correct, but I refuse to discuss such an abomination.

its not a martini if it doesn't contain vermouth and some delicious olives. Alton Brown made martinis on one of his shows and used the analogy of combing three flavor notes into a "chord" of flavor.
BTW... tangueray 10 is the best stuff for martinis! I MHO better than Sapphire. |

Tanq is a very citrusy gin. Sapphire and Beefeater are more juniper/spice driven. They are different sytles. Everyone should try different gins and choose which one they like the best.

I like martinis with 2:1 or even 1:1 gin and vermouth. Man, you wouldn't believe the looks of horror I have gotten from some folks.
