Whoops, forgot to add that I've also tried the Hofbrauhaus Oktoebrfest, Flying Fish, and Harpoon. I'm always seeking out other versions as well.

Tried Becks Oktoberfest this past week - it was mediocre at best.
Also tried the Liberty (resturant chain) Oktoberfest, which was superb. Attempted to drink them out of their stock, but I failed... |

Sampled some Victory Festbier this past week. I've found this to be an enjoyable Octofest, but it really is fairly light in body and lacks a great deal of character. Flavors were generally some mildly sweet malt and some light hopiness. Pretty well balanced, but generally unexciting.

I had the Victory fest directly from the conditioning tank about a year and a half ago. I think it was really good, but I had been drinking beer more or less continuously for 2-3 days at that point and all I really wanted to do was get to bed.

I finally broke down and went looking for some Octoberfests, and all that was left was Sam Adams. Not much of that to boot.
But it was tasty. |

I haven't found the Paulaner yet, but I did grab some Spaten and it was very, very good. I'll be buying more of it.

I had SA october a few weeks ago, and I remember it being pretty nice, but I wasn't as impressed as some of you guys seem to be. It was, as you say, pretty unremarkable, well balanced, and easy to drink.
Spaten, I think, had one that really impressed me a few years ago. I liked it. It however, may have been paulaner, becks, or some other damned german word that I don't understand. (Sorry!) |
