Suggestions for a newbie

Okay, I haven't really tied mixing alcohol with cigars before. On occasion I would drink a beer (a real beer, not Bud or something) while smoking, and I once has a glass of scotch with rum (very iced, watered down - the only time I have really been able to drink scotch and enjoy it).

I am thinking about going out and buying some sort of scotch/rum/whiskey/whatever to drink on occasion with cigars. I don't like really strong alocohol straight up - burns my throat, I can't taste any flavors. Likewise, I can't afford anything really expensive. I am thinking maybe in the $20 range, maybe as high as $30.

Is there anything that people recommend that I try? I thought I would ask here first rather than just going out and trying stuff hit and miss.
