Exquisicat Investigation
I saw the item in question on the Petsmart website but it's different from my choices at the store.
There are silica sand based "pearls" and silica gel based "crystals". I think I would be more comfortable with the composition of the gel but the gel crystals contain some blue crystals. They seem to be knocking off Tidy Cat's version of the product. I'm not afraid of color (my sponge is currently pink) but I can't have any scented crystals in my humi. I've e-mailed Petsmart for some information. If any of you know about the mysterious blue crystals please let me know. |

The blue things are scent releasers. The Exquisicat Pearl Fresh KL specifically says on the container it's odor free. And they are beads, not crystals. I cannot speak for the performance of any other product.

You definitely DO NOT want to use any KL beads that say "Step Fresh" because these do have scent impregnated crystals that when moved or gotten moist do give off a perfume scent. These would obviously also scent your cigars. Stick with the Pearl Fresh beads (not gel) unscented, and just to be sure specifically "Esquisicat" brand which I think is only retailed thorough PetsMart.

The site is different than the store, at least the store by me. Just picked up a 7.2 lb. jar for 13.99. The label states ExquisiCat Pearl Fresh Cat Litter. This what was recommended to me from another BOTL. They look like beads, have no odor, and the label ingredients are silica sand, oxygen, water. The ExquisiCat Crystals Cat Litter on the site looks like the same stuff, but . I also been told to avoid the KLs with blue crystals because they may contain perfumes.

Thanks for the input guys.
I found another brand at a grocery store today. 4 lbs for $9 but I can't remember the name. Definitely beads and they're as big as the crystals. These are silica sand and I'd probably go with these if I can't find an acceptable silica gel. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing back from Petsmart. |

I just e-mailed a chinese manufacturer.
According to their website color doesn't necessaraly mean scented. They have a lot of different products but with fancy chemical descriptions. I hope their reply e-mail gives some clarification. |

I can post the "ingredient list" when I get home if you need it. It's very simple, silica sand, oxygen and water or something along those lines.
