My favorite pipe.
I have been smoking my great grandfathers calabash and I love it. The following says it all. Happy smoking.
The calabash is one of the most enduring and popular of all pipe designs, having originated before the turn of the last century. Not only is it beautiful to look at and comfortable to hold, but it delivers one of the best smokes of any pipe. The reason is that the bowl has a perfectly centered air hole, which is optimal for even combustion. The smoke is drawn through this hole into the interior of the gourd, where it is cooled, and the moisture precipitates out. The shape of the shank causes a swirling vortex that funnels the smoke through the ferrule into the bit. The result is a cool, dry, and naturally sweet smoke. There are those who say that calabashes are the best pipe of any design for English mixtures. wac&sg
