Estate Pipe Restoration

I'm wanting to get into this for fun and I was having a hard time finding any info on the web. Does anybody have some good ideas or experience with restoring estate pipes? I know someone asked this earlier but I'd be particularly interested in knowing what material is used to put a shine on stems and clean up oxidation. Also I'm interested in what material is used to shine briar bowls. Any information that you could pass along would be put to good use.
