I penned THIS article, which delves into what I consider one of Trane's finest offerings, for the CW Home Page some three years ago.

Been a long time since I listened to My Favorite Things. If I had to pick one Trane record, that's probably the one I'd pick.

No kidding!
My Favourite Things and Summertime... Two of 'my favourite' Coltrane tunes. His renditions of the former song recorded on some of his European tours are quite astoundingly hypnotic as well - especially when Eric Dolphy joined the group. Another of my go-to albums in the early days of my exposure to his music was Live at Birdland, recorded in 1963 on the Impulse! label. I can well remember listening to Afro Blue and The Promise (from said album) being played on a local jazz radio program during the wee hours of the morning. And the studio-recorded Alabama (on the same album) has to be one of the most heart-wrenching jazz numbers ever.

Both so poignantly mournful. Yet Coltrane's rendering of the former still manages to finish on a spiritually uplifting note. Brilliant stuff that hints at what was to come with A Love Supreme.

Long time Holliday fan, have the box set of her complete works. Also have her remastered last studio album on virgin vinyl. Even if you didn't know that this was her last recording, you can hear the weariness in her voice. Sad, really, but a really decent work.

Youtube video of her singing Strange Fruit... LINK
Annie Lennox does the song justice on her Nostalgia album as well.

Had to go search the LPs because I couldn't remember the name.
Lady in Satin. It was amongst the last LPs I played before my amplifier died a couple of years ago.
