CA tobacco tax hike defeated!!!

Who would have ever thought that NY is more of a communist state than CA?

I'm glad to see that reasonable minds can still prevail.

While it is certainly a good thing that this proposal was defeated some of the comments on the link provided are a little less encouraging, It seems that (after an admittedly quick read) a fair number of people didn't have a problem with increasing tobacco taxes but had problems with the amount of and the distribution of the taxes.

All in all a great win but I fear is sstill to come.

Yup. It won't stop. And once they've taxed all they can from smokers they'll go onto the rest. I'll leave it at that because I don't want this thread to be moved to the OCR.

Let's all move away to an island and start our own country.

By the time they get done with the smokers there won't be many people to tax in CA. It will end up being a tax on stupidity and will get shot down in the Supreme Court as being discriminatory.

I tell y'all what, I'm almost moving to the favorable side of legalizing marijuana just so someone else will be persecuted with excessive, unjust taxation beside us.

Tommy, I've already decided that pot should be legalized. This is coming from a guy who has never smoked one joint in his life. In fact, I've never tried any illegal drugs. But it's gotten to the point where it's a waste of money to pay for the law enforcement in relation to marijuana. And, if it's legalized, we can control it more and tax it. I vote to legalize.

They are just about done with tobacco.....its all about money and they have to spend more money to get the same effect. Next they are going after fat people because you know "obesity will be the number one cause of preventable death" and "obesity is driving up healthcare cost".

Unlike alcohol, I have yet to hear of someone getting violent from smoking a little weed.
