If you're an optimist, like me, who loves all the new stuff, and seeing the industry like this, it's like nothing you've ever seen. A convention hall filled with exhibitors, figure two or three halls of the Morial Convention Center, and you CAN SMOKE in there!!
It is a trade show, so there are some meetings and workshops, and then the exhibitors on the show floor. It is intended for retailers to visit their vendors and suppliers, you know how that goes. But some of the exhibitors have often given passes to their friends and supporters, and often retailers, members of the organization will buy or give passes to friends or supporters as well.
Then there's the press. In years past, I went for free as "press" and I duly wrote articles on the magazine side of this site. But many bloggers and others claiming themselves as press took advantage of it as a way to get in free and load up on cigars. The organization now charges $150.00 per press pass, and often, organizations can only get two. I haven't been since 2010 when it was last in New Orleans.
