I am a big fan of La Gloria Cubanas - have been smoking them for about 6 years. I first started smoking them after I visited the factory in Miami and got a box of Wavells.
Can someone tell me if there are any major differences between La Glorias manufactured in Miami vs. DR in terms of construction, blend, etc. |

There used to be..I got Wavells on Calle Ocho last time I was there 4 years ago and the boxes rolled in Miami had a TP on the bottom. Man; those babies aged great. As for now, I know Ernesto rolls 90 % in the DR and its been so long since Ive had a Dom. LGC I could not really answer intelligently.Good smokes and they have done a great job revambing the El Rico Habana line, especially the Rothschild.

Jojoscigars,
I guess I heard somthing like that also - that the Miami La Glorias were better than DR. But why? Is it better construction or the fact that they don't have to be handled as much to get them to the US (I don't know how they are shipped but that's a question for another thread)? Thanks. |

When the DR factory first opened during the boom, the Miami rolled cigars beat the DR ones hands down.
QC at the DR plant has improved, and I for one no longer notice a difference. Of course, I do have a rather unrefined palatte.

I just smoked my first LGC Friday night, a Series R and was bowled over. Anybody able to give me more insight?

My experience has been that they are well made, medium bodied, consistent, and have a really nice flavor to them. Not to mention that it is a great value cigar - you get a lot for your $.
Can't help you on the Series R though - I haven't smoked that many, in part because I don't like large ring sizes. |

Madal--the Serie R's are always a great bet.
The wavels are my favorite, along with the Dble. Cor. and Cor. Gorda. But I personally don't get the taste from their smaller ring gauges and, therefore, stick to the larger smokes. At one of the factories they went thru a phase of box-pressing the smokes. At the time, that, apparently, was 1 way to tell which factory it came from. I liked them box-pressed even more. To me personally, they have always been very straight-forward, strong, lots of body. I could always count on them to deliver a good buzz. I can't remember 1 ever giving me problems because of construction.

I like the hermosos and en cedros best, and they both come from the DR.
