Mardi Gras 2018
Katie and I are returning to NOLA for her Sweet 16th, which falls on Fat Tuesday (2/13). We are arriving sometime Saturday and leaving after Rex on Tuesday. I have a room booked at the Homewood Suites French Quarter. As a comp of the room, I will have 4 extra guest bands available if you want to park ($35 valet, no self parking) and be in the middle of it all. Love to see some of you NOLA guys while we are there. I know there are a couple of cigar lounges in the Quarter we could meet at and share a cigar and some lies.
LMK and we'll set it up.

On the dates in question, Kelly and I are chaperoning the Brother Martin High School Crusader Band in Le Krewe d'Etat on Friday night, and Endymion on Saturday night.
Our plan was to have you two meet up with us for an all-day on Sunday. We go uptown near the corner of Magazine Street and Napoleon Avenue as there is ample space to stake out a bit of land, set up chairs and ice chests and such. Benton and his friends, James and a couple friends will be all in tow, so Katie would have a good group of kids to hang with. I realize B. and his friends are Jonathan's age, but they're funny, welcoming, people. J's friends are good kids, too. It's right by St. Stephen Church so there is food, rest rooms, we bring food, too, and often use the rest room at a coffee shop just steps away on Magazine Street. For us, we can get out of there in a matter of minutes, too. Where we set up the chairs, we are not in the middle of the crowd, but about 100 feet behind it. Easy to see the parades, while sitting comfortably with cigar in hand.

If the streetcars are running, we can take it to Napoleon and walk to magazine. Otherwise, I think we can get an Uber. Parking is $35 each time we go to the hotel, so we're going to limit it to walking as much as possible. Since it is a special occasion, I opted to splurge and get a room in the Quarter to be right in the middle of the madness. I'm already getting pumped, as I never went to the Quarter for MG in the decade I lived there. Looking forward to seeing you guys too.
Just pray that I don't fall in love with the place again. It'll be another 6 years until moving back is even an option.

We'll figure it out somehow. More than I can manage for one day.
