Using the basement as a humidor?

I live in an old farm house that has a double, field-stone wall basement. The humidity in the basement stays in the mid 60s for 8 months of the year and dips a bit lower in the winter months. I was thinking of storing a box or two of cigars down there but am hesitant thinking they'll get moldy.

Anyone have any experience/advice with this?

do you have any standing water problems. If your humidity in the basement is accuratley reading 65, a coolerdor may be the best inexpensive scenario for you.

one way to minimize the chances of mold is to circulate the air regularly... aI had a friend who did what you suggest and he did have mold, but I am also certain his basement was much higher humidity than 65%. Perhaps an experiment on a handful of cigars before going hell bent...

no standing water. Maybe a coolerdor and a few experimental sticks in a cigar box is the prudent thing to do.

Basement Humidor

Use a cooler, throw in a Humidifier charged w/50-50 PG (or beads if you want 65%) and don't sweat it. The Humidifier will take out wxtra water in the summer, and provide extra humidity in the winter.

It's really as simple as that.
