Flakes, plugs and ropes are usually smoked in smaller bowl pipes since compressed tobaccos smoke slower. Ribbon and shag tobaccos being loose leaf smoke fast. Pipe smokers like larger bowls for loose leaf.

Loose leafs tobaccos like shag and ribbon cut are not compressed so they tend to be dryer and burn hotter and faster. It is so easier to keep shag and ribbon lit requiring less relights.
If you smoke loose tobaccos in a smal bowl pipe, it won't last long. |

Are you finding the pipes and stands and stuff at local places, or online? I’ve had a tiny bit of luck with a few local antique markets. They don’t seem to renew their inventory a whole hell of a lot though.

Some antique stores as well as ebay (that can be an expensive little rabbit hole, you search for one thing and find 12 things that you like lol)
