Moet: White Star, Brut Imperial, Imperial WTF?
Ok, so I thought I'd get some bubbly for New Year's. At the store, I saw something curious: Moet et Chandon Imperial. So I bought a bottle, thinking maybe it was different from the White Star stuff. Meh, way way way too acidic...had to mix it with Grand Marnier or pour in some simple syrup to cut the acidity and just make it drinkable.
But I'm still curious about this. From what I can gather from some google searching, Imperial is now replacing White Star as the standard NV offering from Moet in the USA.
For whatever reason, the rest of the world has always gotten Brut Imperial, but the USA has instead gotten White Star. Now, White Star is being discontinued and this new "Imperial" (no "Brut" in the name) is its replacement.
Anyone happen to know if its supposed to be the same as Brut Imperial and just why the US got a different wine in the first place?
