OK, so here we go.
I bought some beads from a board member. Unlike Viper139's, which are white when dry, these are yellow. Additionally, upon the addition of water, they fizz, and something is vaporizing from the mixture. The smell, however, is similar to a walk-in humidor. Is all this normal?

I've seen the beads turn a yellowish brown and take on the smell of the humidor after being in use for awhile. As far as the fizzing thing, I have no idea

Yes they fizz and will even crack when water is added...not to worry. They should look white when dry and translucent when watered...but yellow...my only experience with that is after they have been in my coolerdors for a long time, never when brand new.

Maybe they were used? Not necessarily a bad thing as long as they are working okay.

The beads can generate significant heat when water is added. Yellow color indicates that the beads have probably been in a container where cigars were present. They do absorb oils and chemicals other than just water from the air...

OK. I spect they were probably used, as I got them cheap. This won't affect their usability, will it?
