Int Champ Cup -AMAZING ATTENDANCE
Football (SOCCER) is getting huge in this country. Fueled by a large immigrant population for sure but I think the numbers show mainstream America is taking notice... Take a look at the attendance for the International Champions Cup which wraps up in the US on Saturday. It's some amazing numbers...
7/19 Roma-PSG Detroit 36,289 7/20 ManU-Man City NRG-Houston 67,401 (SO) 7/22 Juventus-Barca Met Life, NJ 82,104 (SO) 7/22 PSG - SPURS Hard Rock, Orlando 33,322 7/22 Real-ManU Levi St, Santa Clara 65,109 (SO) 7/25 SPURS - Roma Red Bull Arena, NJ 26,192 (SO) and i was there!!!!! Now check these numbers from last night - the same time 63,032 jammed into Levi Stadium for the Gold CUp final (Yes 2,000 less than the Real-ManU match) 7/26 Barca-ManU FedEx (Redskins) 80,162 (SO) 7/26 PSG - Juventus Hard Rock, Orlando 44,444 (SO) 7/26 Man City - Real LA Coliseum 93,098 (SO) So there were over 217,000 ticket sold for Euro Football for one night in the US. With the Gold Cup added, in total over 280,000 attended soccer matches in the US last night. Not bad for a "niche" sport... And that's before the last three matches including 2 on Saturday with a US El Clasico (Real v. Barca) and SPURS facing Man City. 2 fun matches to go. Last point - this is the pre-season but the stars are in the games - often starting and playing 60+ minutes. Good football and real emotion as these teams are playing hard! |
