Over the years, several guys filled the fourth role. Avery, Milwood, Neagle, Leibrandt to name a few.

Interesting trivia: During the years they spent together in the Braves' rotation, Glavine and Maddux combined for 347 wins. Maddux ranked first during this span with 178 victories and Glavine ranked third, sitting behind Randy Johnson.

During their first six seasons together, Smoltz, Maddux and Glavine each won more games than any other NL pitchers and combined to capture five Cy Young Awards. Maddux and Glavine won more games than any other pitchers in the Majors during that span.
