Cohiba Lancero CLE ABR '01
This is one of the best sticks I have smoked to date. Tawny smooth brown wrapper with minimal veins. Excellent construction with no soft spots. INCREDIBLE prelight aroma. Easy light. Smooth draw. Flakey gray ash. Razor sharp burn with no need for correction. Started with wood and vanilla, and eased its way into a pleasant grassy flavor and mild sweet leather. The woody flavor intensified as it was smoked, but was never obtrusive. The vanilla note danced in and out and became more prominent at the last third which was also combined with a toasted tobacco flavor. Amazingly complex, this stick took a full 1 hour and 45 minutes to enjoy. It MUST be smoked slowly to appreciate all of the complexity and nuances. Do NOT draw too hard or too frequently or the flavors become sour and unpleasant. All in all, an outstanding smoking experience. I did not experience the much rumored draw problems, even though this was from the notorious '01 stock. I can see why this is Castro's diplomatic gift!! This is the only cigar I have given a "10" to.
