There are two situations, If you are in an area that high humidity is the norm the the beads will be absorbing the moisture that enters the humidor, if you live in an area with low normal relative humidity then the beads will desorb to add moisture to the humi.

When the beads are increasing the humidity the addition of distilled water to the beads is recommended, the ones I sell come precharged and you actually don't have to do anything, but adding the water makes them last longer without additional maintenance.

When the beads are decreasing the humidity do not add any water to the beads, in fact the beads I sell you should run a hair dryer over them for a while to dry them out then place them in your humi. The beads come precharged to 65% so it is difficult for them to absorb much unless they are dried. They will absorb more but the correction in your humi will take longer.
