Any chance this humidor will hold value?
I was browsing through e-bay this morning for maybe a decent collectible humidor in the $150-$250 range and ran across this item.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=11675 Anyone have any knowledge of this RyJ humidor? I see plenty of the RyJ LE 25ct humis that come with a box of smokes for sale, but I haven't seen this particular box before. If anyone happens to own one, or have any info of its going value, authenticity, or to the quality of the item would be much appreciated. TIA -Jay- |

This was made as a companion to the one you reference in your post - the special box for the 25 count box of Churchills. They are made in China, of average quality. I do not believe it will be collectible, i.e., will never be worth more than the $152.50 it's currently bidding at. I'm pretty sure that may be more than it is worth.
Other than the Prometheus VSG and Opus humnidors, I'm not sure any of these "collectible" humidors will ever appreciate in value. Take your money to www.jrcigars.com, where you will find "brand name" humidors with smokes inside in your price range. I recommend the CAO Brazilia for starters. Hope this helps.

Thx Sucol for the info, it helps me tremendously. Well time to search instead for a Diamond Crown, or maybe a used Daniel Marshall then. I'll check out the Prometheus as well, thank you.

Simply as a 250 count humidor it is worth the $152. The fact that it is limited and attractive is a bonus. I wouldn't pay much more, maybe $175 tops. However, if you really want something collectible then look elsewhere - like the ones Sucol mentioned.

Good advice from Sucol....spend less, get more, unless you really want a large RyJ humidor. You might check www.bargainhumidors.com to see what is available, especially in their "seconds" bin.
I have an HUpmann LE in 75 count that I found for $20 and a Por Larranaga LE in 75 count that I found for $50. Probably made in China by the same company....average quality, sure, but both close with a solid "whoosh" and hold RH very well (when I remember to check the humidifiers). I liked the graphics, but am under no illusions that they will be fine collectible humidors in the years to come. You just gotta be happy with the call you make!
