Kristoff Sumatra Lancero

This cigar has a smooth oily wrapper with a closed foot. The wrapper and foot have a distinct leathery aroma. It has an evenly firm bunch and a slightly firm cold draw that yields leather and some spice notes. Today’s beverage is a Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout.

The cigar starts with medium leather notes and a kind of spice melange. The burn is even and the ash is light grey and solid looking. The draw is still a bit firm although I am getting plentiful flavor and smoke.

The ash dropped fairly quickly (a nice breeze might have caused this). At one third the flavors have expanded to include cedar notes, but are still mostly leather. The draw has opened up some. This is a medium bodied smoke with medium flavors, complex but not full. The construction is sound with a continued even burn.

Overall the ale might not have been the best pairing. This tastes more like a bourbon drinker’s smoke. Or perhaps a mineral water if you are not a liquor drinker.

During the second third a peppery note developed in the flavors and the retrohale. This cigar has a good developing complexity. The burn continues to be even and the ash has taken on a darker shade of grey.

Approaching the final inch the flavors remain complex and pleasant. It has been a while since I smoked a Sumatra, so I had no preconceptions. The finish was peppery. Excellent construction and overall flavor earn this one 8.5/10. Joe Bob says check it out.
