Top 10 Rock Records or What Do You Take to the Desert Island
Okay I know it's a cliche but still fun, right!?
I can't say my list is in any particular order. It probably changes depending on what I'm into at the moment so these are not rank ordered. Rock is loosely defined as I include Bob Marley but not blues artists without whom most of the list below would not have been possible. No boxsets. 1. Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street/Beggars Banquet. - All I can say is thank God for heroin. These records and everything after Some Girls confirm my belief that some artists should not clean up as the quality of their work suffers. I would add Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop to that list but it's probably another thread 2. The Clash: Sandinista/London Calling 3. Iggy and the Stooges: Raw Power 4. Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks 5. Bob Marley and the Wailers: Kaya - his only album of love songs but awfully good at that. 6. Funkadelic: Maggot Brain - the marriage of Motown, Hendrix and James Brown. 7. Led Zeppelin: II 8. Black Sabbath: Paranoid 9. Bad Brains: Rock for Light 10. Radiohead: Kid A three or four of these would probably change tomorrow... Public Enemy's "It takes a nation of millions to hold us back" could be substituted for any number above. Run DMC: First album or King of Rock Beastie Boys: Paul's Boutique Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East could probably replace Black Sabbath above as well. I'm sure Beatles get honorable mention. I like Pink Floyd and DSOTM is probably eleven on that list. Butthole Surfers, Locus Abortion Technican is pretty damn good as well. |
