Siphon Coffee Makers

I saw today that Kitchen Aid is introducing a siphon coffee maker. I remember my parents had one that used a burner (alcohol I am guessing). I was fascinated by it, but have not seen one in ages.

Does siphon made coffee taste better?

Nah, I've heard they just suck.

IIRC they actually don't siphon (or suck). Water is forced up into the upper container holding the grounds by steam pressure similar to a moka pot but them once the heat source is gone, the, liquid falls back into the lower container where the water began.

that looks to be true. The KA one has an electric heater. Most of them use a flame to heat the water.

I HAD a Bodum Santos electric siphon maker that has since died, much to my dismay. IMHO they do make a better cup, smoother, less harsh as the water temp is closer to the ideal. The Bodin is no longer made, and I really would like a new one, may have to look at the kitchen aid
