Hygrometer gone mad?

I had some problems with too high humidity in the humi (about 73-74% RH). I then decided to use PG (Propyleneglycole). Im not sure I could use it in my humi (could anything bad happen?). I dont like the idea putting chemicals I dont know in to my humi with the cigars.

After putting PG in humi. First the hygrometer went down to 70% (RH) and I felt satisfied. But after a couple of hours I went to watch it again and when I touched it the hygrometer went up to 72-73% and then a little later again up to 75%.

After a week with a RH 75% I was touching the cigars, which to my surprise felt a bit dry/hard for 75%. They fel more spongy before.

Is there anything wrong with the hygrometer?

Or maybe Im just being to worried?
