Talisker 10 vs 18
I poured a dram of each to compare them and honestly I a bit surprised the differences aren't more noticable.
The color is exactly the same - gold/amber. The aroma was also very similar - peaty, marine. Flavor 10 - spice hits right away in the front of the palate and lingers on a long, warm finish. Marine quality very present. Flavor 18 - spice takes a minute to form and hits move of the back of the tongue and the spice lingers longer in the finish. Marine quality isn't as noticable. This is the first time I've had a bottle of each at the same time and been able to try them head to head. All in all, there is no denying that these two drams are closely related cousins. Although I'm surprised at how similar they are. On one had I was hoping there would be more of a striking difference. However, I'm kind of glad that I can save my money and just purchase the 10 y/o from now on. Have any of you tasted the 10 and 18 head to head? What are your thoughts?
