Boveda Packets

I just recieved a Boveda 65% packet from a vendor as part of an order. I assumed it would be sort of stiff, like those humipacks in Fuente boxes. This one is squishy, like it is full of water. The packet is still sealed in the plastic wrap, but you can poke it and tell it is full of liquid.

Those of you who use these things (I was going to put it in an otterbox), are they supposed to be squishy like they are full of water?

Thanks RonCarlos. This place is great! I learn something new every day. I wonder if the Boveda type packets get stiff when they are used up, and that is why the packets in the fuente boxes always seem stiff? The ones I always got in a Fuente box were hard like a credit card inside of a paper lining.

exactly. if the boveda you received is still in the cello, it will last about 6 months in that cello.

How long will it last when you take it out of the cello?

I know, and thanks. if you leave a Boveda in its cello, and store it in a humidor or cigar cabinet, it can last for a couple of years. Once its out of the cello, how long it lasts is up to how well your humidor seals, and how often it is opened. Humidipak says the Boveda should last about 6 months in the average humidor. In an airtight travel humidor, I would expect a year or more.

It won't be releasing humidity unless it is out of the cello, right?

I'm not so sure. Do cigars loose humidity with cello on? Cello is not airtight. But, it will stay well preserved. I would keep it in your humidor.
