A golden opportunity?
I took a rare trip to a liquor store tonight to buy a couple of bottles of beer to drink while smoking cigars. It is an awesome store near me that has hundreds of different beers, and had recently moved to larger digs. They brought their humidor with them but ended up getting a brand new one, even though the old one works fine and looks fine. It's a large, free standing floor unit with a large humidifier that plugs into the wall, the humidifier was about the size of a shoebox and it is silver. I did not get the name of the humidor or the unit, but it looks like a fairly standard type of commercial humidor. Overall the humidor is probably close to six feet tall and almost as wide, if not wider.
I got to talking to them about cigars, actually I was just asking if they planned to get more cigars and stock the second humidor, but the upshot is that I can buy it for $200. However, I do not have the space for it right now and I've actually been clearing a lot of stuff out - not taking more in. Also, I don't own anywhere near the number of cigars to stock the thing and I don't plan to in the near future. But....a free standing, commercial 'dor in my house? It sounds great whether I need it or not. And it would make my house smell great. It would probably break me though - trying to buy enough cigars to fill it. What would you guys do? |

Sounds like a great deal as long as they didn't store Acids or Lars in it!

Sounds like a good deal if you have the room for it. I would check that it seals well and isn't warped and that the inside didn't smell like mildew. That said, I probably would not use the humidifier that's in there now. If it's the big silver one that I think it is (can't remember the name right now) I used to have one and it was overkill in my cabinet. The bottom shelf (where it was was located) was always overhumidified and I found it difficult to regulate...even with some small extra fans.
Here's what I had: http://galleries.cigarweekly.com/Clo...otPourri/E71_0
