After listening to Gladys w/B.B. King last night, it brought to mind my wish that she had done more "Blues". Don't get me wrong, I like a LOT of her music, but can't help but think her voice was "wasted" somewhat on popular music. I would love to get my hands on a CD with her singing Nuthin but the Blues.

Very talented lady. Her stuff with "The Pips" was mostly commercialized pop packaged by the record producers.

I don't think she would have been near as succesful doing anything other than what she did. Gawd knows plenty of vocalist can do great jobs on other genres. I think Whitney Houston is one fine singer but not my style.

You're probably right mannish, I'm sure she wouldn't have had anywhere near the exposure had she focused on Blues......but when I hear her do one of those "soulful/blues ballads"...I can't help but wish for more.
